The Seventh Annual Herd Builder Sale once again lived up to its name by offering females that were truly Herd Building quality in their kind. Active bidding came from both the seats and the phones making for a solid sale from beginning to end and cattle selling into eleven states. The five Herd Builder Partners, Brink Livestock, Bodine Brothers, J & L Braunvieh, McBee Cattle Co, also welcomed guest partners Bean Cattle Co, Rafter M, and Middle Creek to host a quality event.
Typical to form, the caliber of cattle was equaled only by the hospitality offered, making this event not just a sale but a social gathering. The Herd Builder Group donated $300 to National Junior Braunvieh Association to help fund the Jr, National Show which will be held this June in Springfield, MO.
The high selling female was lot 16. A really broody, deep, and big topped bred fullblood heifer from McBee to Bean Cattle Co in Alabama. She was a GLB Sam 627 daughter out of an own daughter of McBee’s top herd bull producing Ms FF Brutus A113. She boasted a 77 pound birth weight while achieving a 126 growth ratio out of 32 contemporaries. She also brought balanced EPD’s and REA and IMF scan ratios of 107 and 108.
The second high selling lot was a Polled Purebred Pair. The lot 11 cow was a C102 daughter which was very typey, angular, and with a big hip. Her September Boxcar bull calf already looked the part of a herd bull and had a 66 pound birth weight. Bill Maerli from Missouri was the buyer.
The third high selling honors at $2500 went to Bodines lots 41 and 45. Lot 41 was a polled purebred heifer sired by Bodine’s polled Herd Sire, Mr. RFI “Catamount” 507. Selling to Ridgefield Farms in North Carolina, she had a lot of volume and style along with a combination of a 138 IMF ratio, 104 REA ratio, 110 Weaning Ratio, and high EPD’s. Lot 45 was a Purebred pair with the cow being a line bred Sambo out of GLB Sam 627 with positive balanced EPD’s. Her heifer calf was an extremely typey Catamount daughter.
The high selling open heifers were two Fullbloods both offered by Keith and Keith Braunvieh and sold for $1950 each. S and S Braunvieh, Missouri, and 33 Land and Cattle, Oklahoma invested in really thick and soggy daughters of Edsel Keith’s RJB Mr. Doc herd sire. 33 Land and Cattle, Sapulpa, OK was also the volume buyer, taking home a trailer load of quality females that displayed real Braunvieh type.
The Herd Builder Group would like to thank all buyers and bidders at their event and invite every one to their 2010 event which will be held the first Saturday in November.
