Buyers
from 10 states ranging from Minnesota to Texas and California
to Indiana purchased 75 lots at the 5th Annual Herd Builder
Sale for an average of $1,481. This year’s sale had
21 more lots selling than the 2006 sale and of the 75 lots,
36 were open heifers. There were five Herd Builder Group
breeders from four states that supplied some of the offering.
From Missouri were Keith & Keith Braunvieh, Bolivar
and McBee Cattle Company, Fayette. From Kansas was Brink
Livestock, Piedmont. From Oklahoma was J & L Braunvieh,
Okemah, and from Iowa was C-Farms, Williamsburg. The five
breeders from the Herd Builder Group were allowed guest
consignors. Guest consignor for Brink Livestock was Middle
Creek Braunvieh, Williamsburg, Kansas. Guest consignor
for McBee Cattle Company was Bodine Bros., Voltaire, North
Dakota. Guest consignor for J & L Braunvieh was Twister
HK Livestock, Nowata, Oklahoma. Guest consignor for C-Farms
was Kerns Farms, Clearfield, Iowa.
This year’s new sale facility, Mid-Mo Livestock Center,
Marshall, Missouri worked well for presenting and selling
the 75 lots by auctioneer Hoover Case as the lots were sold
and loaded out in five hours.
The sale’s high selling lot was an open heifer, MCB
FF Ms F020 6130 consigned by McBee Cattle Company and selling
to Bean Cattle Company, Stevenson, Alabama for $3,900. McBee’s
heifer had a number of bidders contending for the heifer’s
ownership before Tommy Bean, owner of Bean Cattle Company,
was able to place the final bid. The high selling heifer
was a September ‘06 fullblood sired by KWC Quinto F020
ET and out of a Mister FF 102 daughter. She had a weaning
weight ratio of 105%, a yearling REA ratio of 139%, and a
yearling IMF ratio of 139%, along with being thickly made
and very correct.
The second high selling animal was the spring calving polled
purebred cow, Ms JLB Blk Molly and her March ‘06 heifer
calf by TLC Buster R5231 consigned by J & L Braunvieh
and purchased by Bluebonnet Braunvieh, Chatfield, Texas for
$3,200. J & L’s consignment was a January ‘05

an excellent udder and conformation, was moderate in her
frame, and had a growthy, well-made heifer calf at side.
The third high selling lot went for $3,100 and was also purchased
by Bean Cattle Company. McBee Cattle Company consigned her.
This lot was MCB Ms H106 A514R, a May ‘05 female with
a September ‘07 heifer calf at side by Polled Plus
5003. MCB Ms H106 A514R was sired by Mr FF H106 (“Boxcar”)
and out of a Mister FF 102 female. All four of the young
cows sold by McBee Cattle Co. were bred the same and all
had calves at side by Polled Plus 5003.
A consignment from Keith and Keith Braunvieh, Miss KKB M261,
was the fourth high selling lot at $3,000 and again selling
