To expand the success of the McBee Calf Roundup, in 2011 we are going to gather calves in the Southeastern US to participate in the August Calf Roundup. If you have interest, contact us now.

McBee Calf Roundup (MCR)

The McBee Calf Roundup was started because we believe a registered seedstock provider should do more than supply bulls and females for their customers. Our philosophy:

Marketing your calves should not be your biggest chore. It should be a pleasurable and painless experience that nets the customer as many dollars as possible, no matter the group size or color of calves. We put the marketing of our customers cattle production as a top priority and selling someone a performance-measured bull or group of heifers is just something else we do.

This philosophy prompted us to begin the McBee Calf Roundup program in 1994. Annually we now have two Roundup dates; one in January for spring born calves and one in August for fall born calves; they are announced by email invitation and eligible cattlemen can bring their preconditioned calves to our Fayette facility on those dates.

Who is Eligible? Anyone who buys a bull from McBee Cattle Company is eligible to participate in the McBee Calf Roundup, a PROVEN marketing program. The Calf Roundup is a service to our customers to market their calf crop at top market price.

All Roundup calves must have received two rounds of preconditioning vaccinations and been weaned for at least 45 days. Upon delivery (including calves from our own herd), the calves are individually weighed, tagged, sorted and grouped into six uniform groups based on sex and weight. We record each calf's birth date, sire breed and ID, dam breed and ID and Roundup (MCR) ID.

After the calves are worked and sorted at delivery, they are held for 8 to 12 days before they are sold to a finishing or backgrounding operation. During the time they are held at McBee Cattle Company, they regain their delivery shrink, get prepared for shipment and, consequently, better performance for their new owners.

Roundup calves have established a reputation for above average performance and we now have several finishing lots calling to see if they can get a portion of these calves.

Since 1994, the McBee Calf Roundup has grouped and marketed over 17,000 calves for our customers. The number of calves delivered by our customers in 2010 ranged from 4 to 63 head of calves. For the two delivery dates in 2010, calves were delivered by 46 different producers.

McBee Braunvieh Influence Gate Cut Heifer Sale

Over the last several years of the McBee Calf Roundup, we have literally sent hundreds of top Braunvieh Influence heifers to the feedlot. Realizing that blood Braunvieh females are some of the best producing, most profitable cows in the beef business, our Braunvieh Influence Gate Cut Heifer Sale was born and is held every November.

The first one was in conjunction with our Calf Roundup in November 2008. We sold 62 heifers to 3 buyers and they keep getting better. The heifers for the sale are screened from all the preconditioned heifers that come to the Calf Roundup. Most of the ones tagged for the sale are from long time bull customers and are very predictable calf raisers.

The heifers are sold by gate cut for a small premium over market price and sold in groups to fit the buyers needs. They are mostly spring born heifers and are ready to breed the following spring. It is a very economical way to put together some young, top producing females that will last a long time and their calves qualify to come back to the Calf Roundup. Whether you need heifers or just want to come and look, you are welcome.
